The short version
- Much of what Truly Suite does happens only on your device: your phone's text messages and call log, your email, other apps' notifications in the Hub, photo search, and voice transcription.
- What we keep on our servers is what the service needs to work for you: your account, your Truly messages, your friends, and what you choose to back up.
- We use a small number of service providers (for example to deliver notifications), only to run the service, and never to advertise to you.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to delete it.
What stays on your device
These are read and kept on your phone or computer and are not sent to our servers:
- Your phone's text messages (SMS/MMS) and call log, when Truly Suite is your SMS or phone app.
- Other apps' chats in the Hub. When you allow notification access, the Hub keeps a copy of chat notifications from apps such as WhatsApp, Signal or Messenger, on your device only.
- Email. Your email account settings and passwords stay on your device; mail is fetched from your own mail servers and not stored by us.
- Photo search: the index of your photos is made and kept on your device.
- Voice transcription: the transcriber runs on your device.
- Finding contacts you have in common. When you compare contacts in a sharing session, contacts are turned into one-way scrambled codes (salted hashes) on your device; the address book itself is not sent to the other person.
Gmail (read-only)
If you choose to connect Gmail, Truly Suite asks Google for permission to read your Gmail (the gmail.readonly scope). It never asks to change, send or delete mail.
- Mail is read by the app on your device, to show messages from people in your contacts in the Hub. It is not sent to, or stored on, our servers.
- The permission is kept by Google on your device. You can disconnect Gmail in the Hub, and remove access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Truly Suite's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Gmail data for advertising, do not sell it, do not let people read it, and do not use it to train AI models.
What we keep on our servers
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Your account: public handle, phone number, optional email, display name, profile picture. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. | To sign you in and let friends find you. |
| Devices you sign in on: a device identifier, the device model and app version, and a notification token. | To keep you signed in, and to deliver messages and calls to the right device. |
| Your Truly messages, voice notes, pictures, files and reactions, and when they were sent, delivered and seen. | To deliver them and keep your conversation history across your devices. Messages in disappearing threads are deleted when they expire. |
| Friends, friend requests, blocks, groups and conversation settings (such as limits or No Calls). | To run your friendships and your rules about who may reach you. |
| Call records: who called whom, when, and how long (not the call itself). | Your call history. Truly calls go directly between devices where possible; we do not record calls. |
| Broadcasts (statuses) you post. | To show them to others. Broadcasts can be seen by people signed in to Truly Suite, unless you mark one private. |
| Contacts backups, and Truly Suite Cloud contacts and links. | So your contacts are safe and the same on your devices. Backups are kept for your account only and are never shared. |
| Location, when you share it: with a friend in a chat, on the Map, or to find your own devices. Location is also noted when you sign in or open the app, unless you turn location sharing off in Map settings. | To show it to the people you chose, and to you. |
| Network addresses of your devices (kept for a short time). | So devices on the same network can connect directly for calls and file transfers. |
| Reminders, app settings you choose to sync, and in-app notices. | So they follow you to your other devices. |
Service providers we use
We use these only to run Truly Suite, under their own privacy terms:
- Our web hosting provider, which runs our servers and database.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, to wake your device when a message or call arrives.
- Google, Apple or Facebook sign-in, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Google's public STUN servers, so two devices can find a direct connection for a call.
- OpenStreetMap map tiles, when you open the Map.
- Anthropic (Claude), only if you turn on the AI assistant and choose to run it on the server. It is off by default, and we do not store what is sent.
We do not sell or rent any of this information, and providers may not use it for their own purposes.
What we never do
- Sell, rent, release or publish your personal data.
- Show ads, or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
- Upload your phone's address book without you choosing a backup or Truly Suite Cloud.
- Read your messages to target you, or use them to train AI models.
We will disclose information only if the law requires it, and then no more than required.
Keeping it safe
Everything between the apps and our servers travels encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed, and sign-in keys on your device are kept in its secure storage.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists, so your history and backups are there when you need them. Disappearing messages are deleted when they expire, and device network addresses after a short time. When you delete your account, we delete its data, except anything the law requires us to keep.
Your choices and rights
- See or copy your data, or correct it: much of it is in the app (Profile, Contacts, chats), or ask us.
- Delete your messages, contacts backups, or your whole account: ask us and we will do it.
- Control what is shared: location sharing, Truly Suite Cloud contacts, automatic backup, the AI assistant and Gmail can each be turned off in the app.
Children
Truly Suite is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change matters to how your information is used, we will tell you in the app first.
